Sheets for Your Comfort A sheet is an integral part of the bedding set in that it serves as the basic cover of the bed mattress. Its main function is to give comfort and a luxurious feeling to its owner whenever he/she has the need for it.

Sheets come in two types: the fitted sheet and the flat sheet. In earlier times, sheets were usually associated with the color white. Not anymore. Today, there is a wide array of colors, shades, and tints from which to choose. Endless options also await buyers at major department stores and malls looking for prints, patterns, and styles that suit their personal preferences and budgets.

California king size beds need California king size sheets. Most users prefer the California king fitted sheets because they are easier to manage and allow for freer movement, but they are harder to find because measurements vary from maker to maker or from brand to brand. Others lean more toward the California king flat sheets because they don't have to worry about exact measurements as the sheets will just have to be tucked under the mattress anyway. One drawback, however, is that since they are not fitted into the mattress, chances are that the sheet may loosen after each use and that the bed has then to be made and remade.

Since the main function of a bed sheet is to give comfort, it is imperative that we familiarize ourselves with the different materials that are used:

Cotton -The most common fabric content of sheets is cotton. Sheets made of 100% cotton are the softest, most breathable, and most durable. Cotton also allows an easier absorption of moisture. Cotton blends are now also widely used because they do not wrinkle as much as pure cotton and are more affordable. Some types of cotton known for their exceptional quality are: Egyptian, Pima, Supimar, and organic.

Synthetic –The most common synthetic fabric used in sheets is polyester. It is manmade and is wrinkle-resistant but it does not possess the softness, breathability, and durability of pure cotton. It also has the tendency to pill which results in the formulation of tiny balls of fabric that gather on the surface.

Blend –Being the most common blend, cotton/polyester is less breathable and warmer than 100% cotton, more durable than synthetic fabrics, but less durable than 100% cotton.

Thread count is another keyword to consider in choosing sheets for your California king size beds. Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric, both vertically and horizontally. The higher the thread count, the softer and more durable the sheet is. It can be found on the front label of the sheet. An ideal thread count is at least 200.

Lastly, it is always wise to maintain at least three sets of cal king sheets for your California king size bed with the first on the bed, the second ready for laundry, and the third in the linen closet. You don't want to be late for work because you did a quick wash on your sheets or run the risk of getting the wash done before you go to bed.
